The roof on most Orlando streets
Shingle is the most common roof on Florida homes, and on most Orlando streets. Price is the main reason. At $12,000 to $22,000 for a typical home, architectural shingles run about half the cost of metal or tile, go on in one to three days, and most later fixes fall in the $350 to $1,500 range. For owners planning to stay 10 to 20 years, shingles often cost the least per year of service.
Architectural shingles, also sold as dimensional or laminated shingles, replaced the flat three-tab style on most Florida homes. The extra thickness adds depth to the roof and holds better in wind.
Eight steps in every shingle job
- Permit. Pulled under license CCC1326792, with in-progress and final inspections booked.
- Strip to the deck. No layovers on old shingles.
- Plywood repair and re-nailing to current code.
- Sealed deck. A secondary barrier keeps water out if a storm peels shingles.
- Starter strips, drip edge and flashing. All new metal at edges and walls.
- Ventilation. Ridge and soffit vents sized so summer heat can escape the attic.
- Shingles and ridge caps to Owens Corning specifications.
- Cleanup. Magnetic sweep, then a walk around the roof with you.

Why we install the whole Owens Corning system
Owens Corning underlayment, starter strips, shingles and ridge caps go on together. Using one maker's parts from deck to ridge is what lets us register the Owens Corning system warranty on eligible roofs.
